Full & Part Rewires
Whether you’re planning a re-design for or an extension onto your home, there’s always a good reason to look into the wiring in your home. With HIPs packs now mandatory and a key element in selling your home, your internal wiring is of great importance to the resale value of your home. No job is too small and Archway can handle both full rewires or part rewires to bring your house up to regulation BS7671 standard whilst providing you with a full breakdown of the work we’re doing and the reason we’re doing it. A full rewire traditionally means replacing all cabling, fittings and distribution equipment and setting it back into the walls but can also mean surface changes with the replaced cabling hidden in trunking fitted onto the walls. We have years of experience in rewiring existing properties, even down to small alterations to new builds, or a selection of repairs and improvements to existing homes. |

Fuseboard Replacements
Archway Electrical offers a full fuse board (or consumer unit) replacement service, often essential since the new Wiring Regulations BS 7671 (published 1st January 2008) require most circuits in domestic and non-domestic properties to be protected by a Residual Current Device (RCD). RCD’s not only protect you from electrical shock but also detect “leaking” electricity from a circuit – often a sign that your cables or wiring is faulty. Your new fuse board will not only be more efficient but also safer as it protects both your wiring and appliances as well as avoiding the problem of having to replace a blown fuse. It also makes resetting your electrics in the case of any future circuit faults, much safer and easier. Archway Electrical always issue a certificate after fitting as well as a testing and inspection report as standard.

Fuseboard Upgrades
In some cases it is wiser and cheaper to simply upgrade the existing board (or consumer unit) but we always carry out a full pre-work inspection of your fuse board and provide you with a full breakdown of the work to be carried out. This breakdown will include any additional work that may be needed like splitting circuits or running in new cable, depending on the age and condition of the wiring in your home. An upgrade is usually very straight forward and will help your old consumer unit to handle the increased demand and avoid power surges that can potentially damage appliances like TV’s, computers, stereos etc.

Storage Heaters
Electric storage heaters are a very popular form of electric heating as they use low cost “off peak” electricity to ensure that running costs remain low. The electricity is stored in a core of high density bricks and discharged throughout the day and evening. Having no moving parts to service and no pipes to fit means that maintenance and installation costs are minimal and do not require an annual safety check. The units can be fitted with both manual and automatic charge control. Call Archway Electrical today to see how little it would cost to heat your home more efficiently and effectively.

Solar PV Panels
Due to the growing demand in both the commercial and domestic market for renewable energy sources to reduce costs and increase efficiency, photo voltaic production has been doubling every 2 years since 2002. Archway Electricals can install a solar panel system to provide clean, cheap electricity and hot water as well as a wall mounted display to help you monitor the efficiency and usage of your property. Archway’s lengthy experience in the industry means we can discuss the best type of photo voltaic panels to use and the kind of result you should expect from your new installation as well as advising on the impact and cost of the work involved in each project we take on. There are currently generous government grants available for solar panel installation to reduce your costs and recently “feed-in” tariffs (whereby you produce enough electricity to feed some back into the National Grid) for solar panels have increased by 50% recently with more increases expected in 2010, meaning that eventually your solar panel system may even start paying for itself! |

Trace Heating Frost Protection
Trace heating is essentially an electric heating element that runs in contact with your household plumbing and is installed primarily for one of three reasons – frost protection, gutter or roof de-icing and temperature maintenance. Burst pipes can cause untold damage to your home and energy bills are substantially affected by poorly insulated plumbing. A trace heating system can prevent this from happening and the professionals at Archway Electricals always discuss design, impact, cost and the ultimate benefit to you before starting any work. Trace heating can also be installed under your floor for a quick and efficient heating system for anywhere in the house – living room, bathroom, kitchen etc – without taking up the room that radiators do. Also, because of the uniform way the trace heating element works, you can actually keep your thermostat up to 2 degrees lower than you would if you used radiators, thereby saving you money. Archway Electricals are able to set up a control unit in the form of a thermostat so that you can set and change your new under floor heating as and when necessary. |
